How to watermark an Aadhaar copy before sharing it

A practical checklist for adding a purpose-limited watermark to an Aadhaar copy without uploading it.

An Aadhaar copy is often requested for verification, but the recipient usually needs it for one narrow purpose. A clear watermark records that purpose directly on the copy and makes casual reuse harder.

Use specific purpose text

Write who the copy is for, why it is being shared, and—when useful—the date. For example: For ABC Telecom SIM verification only — 4 September 2026. Avoid vague text such as “KYC only” when you can be more precise.

Keep the document readable

Use a repeated diagonal watermark with moderate opacity. It should cross blank areas and important fields without hiding the information the legitimate recipient needs. A border watermark can add context without further covering the page.

Review before downloading

  1. Check every page, including the reverse side.
  2. Confirm the recipient and purpose are spelled correctly.
  3. Make sure the watermark is visible at normal zoom.
  4. Open the downloaded file once before sending it.
Important: A watermark reduces casual misuse; it does not make identity theft impossible. Share the minimum information required and use masked Aadhaar where accepted.
